In September 2004, I stumbled across a great Game Making Utility. The Program Game Maker v5.3a was created by Mark Overmars, a full professor at the Institute of Information and Computing Sciences at Utrecht University. My first game, Bugsy, was designed over a two month period and was based on a Platform Tutorial that came with Game Maker. I studied the Tutorial and experimented with the settings, whilst trying to make my first Game / Project original and unique. Some Platform Games created with the Game Maker program fall into the ground by being too similar to Super Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog etc. Such Game making tools should promote imagination and skill, rather than using someone elses Graphics and ideas, only to call it your own. The Shoot'em Up Construction Kit ( SEUCK ) on the Commodore 64 and Commodore Amiga, fell into a too familar problem, where only vertical Shooting or basic collecting Games could be created, making each Game erily similar. Game Maker has grown over the years, in being more powerful and wonderfully popular. A Drag and Drop, plus built in Programming Language, helps make every Game created, to be different, depending on the users imagination and level of expertise. Both Novice and Advanced users can master the program with relatively no Programming experience !
